Dentures and Partials
Reclaim your quality of life with natural looking dentures and partial dentures
Missing teeth can negatively impact your oral health, detract from your appearance, and compromise whole-body wellness. Dr. Naik offers custom dentures and partials to give smiles new life and optimize oral wellbeing.
If you’ve lost all your teeth to trauma, decay, or disease, dentures can restore your smile and renew your quality of life. Full dentures contain an upper and lower row of natural looking prosthetic teeth on a gum-colored base to recreate a natural smile. Dr. Naik will thoroughly assess your dental needs and design your dentures for optimal fit, stability, and appearance.
Dr. Naik may suggest a partial denture (commonly referred to as simply a partial) if you have some healthy teeth remaining. Partials complete smiles by filling the gaps left by missing teeth. They also prevent neighboring teeth from shifting position.
Full Dentures Vs. Partial Dentures
Partial dentures use a metal and plastic framework that supports one or more false teeth. They are built to use metal clips that attach to your remaining healthy teeth to keep your dentures in place, and are a good choice if you’re missing just a few teeth.
Full dentures are different. They use high-quality false teeth in an acrylic, gum-colored base, and are used to restore the upper arch, lower arch, or both arches of teeth. To get full dentures, you must have any remaining healthy teeth extracted, since the dentures are built to fit tightly over your gums. For this reason, full dentures usually are only a good option if you’ve already lost most or all of your teeth to oral disease or severe dental trauma.
The Benefits Of Dentures
Dentures have a variety of benefits. First, dentures allow you to restore your smile and eat, smile, and speak with confidence. Whether you’re missing one, several, or all of your teeth, dentures allow you to get back to your normal day-to-day routine after tooth loss, and feel confident in your appearance.
Dentures also are affordable and are typically either fully or partially covered by insurance after tooth loss, so they may be a good option for smile restoration on a budget.
Today’s modern, custom-fitted dentures also look and feel very natural, and are nearly indistinguishable from real teeth, so you can feel great about your appearance without worrying that other people know you’re wearing dentures.
The Process For Being Fitted For Dentures
Whether you get a set of full dentures or partials, the fitting process will be similar. However, if you get full dentures, you will need to have your remaining teeth extracted at a previous appointment, and you may also get “alveoloplasty,” a procedure that reshapes the jaw to prepare for dentures.
Usually, you’ll come to the office of Priti Naik, DDS for your initial fitting appointment a week or two after you’ve been approved as a good candidate for full or partial dentures. During this appointment, Dr. Priti Naik will take dental impressions of your mouth and any remaining teeth with putty and dental trays, and will also create bite molds of your mouth to understand more about your bite anatomy and structure. She will record all of this information, and then send it to a dental lab.
At this lab, qualified dental technicians will use your impressions, bite mold, and measurements from Dr. Naik to create a set of test dentures. These dentures are made of realistic teeth but are in a wax base that can be easily changed, altered, and adjusted.
Once your trial dentures are sent to our office, you’ll come in to try them on. You’ll be able to tell Dr. Naik how they feel and how they look, and she will test and check the fit of the dentures, recording information and notes about the fit.
Depending on your case, this process may only be done once or twice, or over 4+ appointments over a period of several weeks. Dr. Naik will continue refining and adjusting the fit of your dentures until they are absolutely flawless.
Once your dentures look good to Dr. Naik, she will have the dental lab build a final set of dentures based on your final set of trial dentures. These will arrive at our office in a week or two, then you’ll come and pick up your new teeth and get instructions on how to wear them and how to care for them properly.
